Does anyone know what has konami done for G.I. Joe?

I have seen gi joe 3D movie and old cartoon franchise also the new sigma 6 and toy stuff and comix strips and its videogame on nes*; but what has konami done for this title, I have read somewere that konami developed the videogame on nes but in another website it was written that some other company made it, I have 2 questions: where does the gi joe idea come from and what has konami done for g.i. joe?
