Is there a term used to describe a person who commissions an artist for a work of art?

I thought at first "commissioner" would be the correct term but now I'm thinking that "commissioner" more describes the artist. Arist is to art work as commissioner is to commission, maybe? So, is there even a term that could be used to describe the person paying for the art work? Commission-ee?
