Question about cancer stages.?

Hello. I know someone with stage 4 Lung Cancer. They went to the doctor for a check up after receiving about 6 chemotherapy treatments. They Cancer has significantly gone down, and the person's condition has improved significantly. Is it possible for your cancer stage to be "downgraded" as you get better? Or are you always concidered the same stage even if you improve. Thanks!
