Why do white and black North Americans show off Native heritage, while many Latinos try to hide it?

I think it comes from the racial caste system under the Spanish. The more white you were the higher caste you were (Spaniards born in Spain being the highest and Full blooded Spaniards born in Latin America being 2nd), and at the bottom was the full blooded Africans and Amerindians.
